If yesterday we saw one of the many Samsung Galaxy S4 spin-offs being approved by the Federal Communications Commission, therugged S4 Active, today was Galaxy S4 Zoom’s turn.
Also known by the codename SM-C101, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom is
supposed to be, according to rumors, a camera-centric, downgraded Galaxy
S4 (as far as raw power is concerned).
As mentioned above, today we stumbled on a Galaxy S4 Zoom FCC filing
which might shed some light on this smartphone. Join us after the break
for more.
The FCC documentation reveals that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will only
support GSM/EDGE/WCDMA 850 and 1900. Therefore, if this is the final
form in which the handset will be released, the Zoom will not enjoy LTE
data speeds (which is peculiar, knowing that the Galaxy Camera came with
LTE radios). In US, the gadget will be usable on AT&T’s and
T-Mobile’s networks, but there is yet no way to tell if the
aforementioned carriers will subsidize it.
If you were hoping to get to use the Galaxy S4 Zoom on Verizon or
Sprint, don’t give up hope. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom that has just
been approved by the FCC might be the international model, with
US-specific versions to be submitted for testing at a later date.
As far as the hardware specs of the S4 Zoom are concerned, nothing has
been announced (evidently), but rumors are suggesting that it will
feature a 4.3 inch qHD Super AMOLED display, a 1.6 GHz CPU (of unknown
make), 8GB of storage (expandable via a microSD slot), and a 1,900 mAh
battery.
As far as the camera department is concerned, rumors are claiming that
the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom will boast a 16MP rear facing camera with 10x
optical zoom.
That’s it for now, we’ll bring you up to speed as soon as anything new about the upcoming S4 spin-offs will surface.
