Yash Chopra’s swan song is an ode to love, delivered in his own way, on his own terms

At a time when big studios dictate the how-when-why-where of any film, it’s ironic that a studio boss delivers a three-hour product that is completely old school, with an impossible and mushy story line, all about love. And it works!Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a love story of three people, each being led by their own individual destiny, but linked by the strong bond of timeless emotion. The movie is how, even battling against a star-crossed fate, true love can endure. Where time is only a factor to beat, but never to succumb to, because that same love triumphs over all. Yes, this is the kind of premise the film is based on, and an absorbing and interesting story makes it happen.
This is the story of three very different people. Major Samar Anand, played by Shahrukh Khan, is a bomb defusal squad officer who believes in love. He is constantly on the warpath and is consumed by the destructive force of love. As a young, carefree guy in London – before he becomes a daredevil army man – falls in love with Meera (Katrina Kaif), a pretty young NRI. She is about to marry someone else her father wants for her and will not take Samar too seriously. Forever torn between a broken childhood and guilt, Meera is dealt a cruel card when a childish oath she took comes true, and Samar meets with an accident. Being naive, and driven by her guilt, she asks Samar to leave her forever.
Samar believes that God is mocking him, and he takes Him on by becoming a real daredevil army Major who works as a one-man bomb disposal squad in Kashmir. Never one to wear a safety jacket, he is forever playing Russian roulette with his life and has turned hard as stone. In the course of his tour of duty he meets Akira Rai (Anushka Sharma), a young, aspiring documentary filmmaker trying to capture with her camera the dangers of life in the army. Samar saves Akira from a blast and she falls in love with him, even though she belongs to a generation that falls in and out of relationships easily, never taking it too seriously. By chance she discovers a diary that tells of Samar’s love story. Akira films the Major being a total superhero – the documentary is selected by the TV channels. Samar travels to London to release the film…..and a superb twist turns the movie on its head.
At three hours, it may feel long, but Jab Tak Hai Jaan is an entirely watchable film, which has strong, well defined characters. The complex story with its sparse dialogue and mastery in capturing pretty, aesthetically sharp shots has the stamp of a mark of a true, accomplished veteran who knows his movie-making grammar and his cast and crew extremely well. JTHJ will be remembered as one of Yash Chopra’s finest works, and a fitting effort by a filmmaker at the peak of his craft.
A true farewell from a man who defined romance in cinema. Bravo, Yashji!

On their way to see a doctor, Smruti gets completely possessed by the poltergeist. The only person Jaidev can turn to now, is the cemetery keeper.

Read the Exclusive Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana Movie Review

Everyone in ‘Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana’ speaks in Punjabi. Not the kind of exaggerated, colourised ‘zubaan’ of your average Bollywood potboiler. The everydayness of the language in this likeable film is one of its pleasures. As well as that it has been shot on real locations, not Bollywood’s idea of what a Punjabi’s ‘pind’ should be. So when Omi Khurana (Kapoor) returns after spending many years in ‘vilait’ (London), pretending to be a big shot when he is, in fact, quite the opposite, he runs into characters that are a great fit in Village Lalton.
His suspicious `chacha’s hair has turned from black to that awful auburn that` mehendi’ brings. His grandfather, universally known as ‘Daarji’ ( Nagpal), has lost his memory. His `chachi’ instantly starts feeding him. His cousin ( Bagga) clasps him in a tight `jhappi’. An addition to the house is this aunt’s brother (Sharma) who passes off as being not quite all there, when he is, in fact, quite the opposite. And the little girl (Qureshi) Omi used to tease years ago has turned into a 'daactarni’ , who ferries ‘pinni’ made by her mother, to Omi and his family. The theme of food runs through this film, as it progresses languidly via some well-realized moments, keeping us alongside Omi who is urgent need of a handout, and ready to steal, as he did once before, to get it.

Heir to a billion-dollar automobile empire, Rajveer Grewal has it all, a loving family, riches of the world, and a dream job designing cars. He falls head-over-heels in love with Madhuri, who is a strong advocate of social justice and equality. To his dismay, Rajveer learns that she 'hates' all rich people and will have nothing to do with a rich boy like himself. In a sweeping stance of romance, Rajveer decides to give it all up and pretend to be the 'poorest of the poor' in order to win her affection and love.

A comedy of errors ensues as Rajveer and his ultra-rich lavish family attempt to play the parts of poor slum-dwellers and in doing so turn into a dysfunctional bunch of over-the-top actors. As this 'riches to rags' story takes one hysterical turn after another, how long will they succeed in keeping up this charade?

Jass (Yuvraj Hans) and Velly (Harish Verma) are both college-going boys, who fall in love with Avantika Hundal and Rose (Parul Gulati) respectively. Their odysseys of love make them do many crazy things and finally are compelled to get into the college Bhangra Team. Though they are reluctant to join it in the starting, but eventually become passionate about it. Dutta (B.N. Sharma) does not want them to perform. Their college is sailing in uncertainties of being shut down; a flop show by the Bhangra Team will result in college being locked down. In his attempts to flop the show, he how so ever manages to convince parents of Velly, Jass and his friend, who make sure that their sons do not perform that day by engaging them into some important works.

Will the boys manage to perform in the team? Will they bring back the reputation of their college? And will the college clear the uncertainties of a possible Lock Down?

Burrraahh is a film that speaks about the youth of Punjab. It focuses around the everyday life of the college going folks, from fights to love, from jokes to quarrels and from being non-serious to being passionate.

The movie offers Harish Verma in yet an amazing character, Velly after super successful ‘Jatt TINKA’. He looks amazing on screen, a complete actor. After an award winning performance in Yaar Anumulle, here comes another one. Parul Gulati makes it to the big screen for the first time, and she makes it big. Yuvraj Hans and Avantika Hundal are good too. We expect Yuvraj can do even better than this whereas Avantika had a decent but still a little role. The show stealer here was Mukul Dev who made his Punjabi Debut

This kind of storyline (a film based on Bhangra) is seen for the first time in Punjabi Cinema, so a unique story. The screenplay too is good. Sagar S. Sharma has given a decent direction to the movie. The film doesn’t seem to be boring at any point of time. At no place you find the momentum going down.

Music is the other plus point of the movie. The songs are hitting the charts and making people dance. The compositions are mind mumbling.

The road from youth to adulthood is paved with myriad emotions and Student Of The Year celebrates this colorful coming of age. It is the story of Abhimanyu Singh (Sidharth Malhotra) and Rohan Nanda (Varun Dhawan) who traverse the path of competition, envy, triumph, failure, manipulation and heartbreak in their mini-universe of St. Teresa's High School, Dehradun. Abhimanyu Singh a.k.a Abhi comes from a middle-class family and wants to achieve great heights of success and prosperity, the first step to which will be the Student of the Year trophy while Rohan Nanda a.k.a Ro, is the son of a business tycoon who grapples with a complex relationship with his father and knows that winning the Student Of the Year trophy will bag him the approval that he subconsciously craves for. When the two protagonists with distinct backgrounds and clear goals clash with each other in the locker room, football field and the canteen, there is no question in anyone's mind that the preset equations of the St. Teresa's campus were about to change.

When Abhi and Rohan's rivalry takes an unexpected turn to friendship, neither pre-empts the complications that would brew. Things are further knotted up when Shanaya Singhania (Alia Bhatt), the most popular girl on the campus enters the equation. While Shanaya and Rohan are childhood sweethearts, Abhi's attraction for his best friend's girlfriend and Shanaya's quiet reciprocation causes a rift in their friendship that would have a long lasting impact. Looming large over the various friendships in the campus is the Student Of The year trophy and Dean Yogendra Vasisht's (Rishi Kapoor) emphasis on success and victory. Towards the end of the term, the foes-turned-friends-turned foes, Abhi and Rohan, are ready for a face-off and battle lines are drawn through the length and breadth of the campus, with only one goal in everyone's eyes - Student Of The Year Trophy. As new ambitions are born and old loyalties fall by the wayside, each segment of the Student Of The Year competition manages to tear apart both, the participants and the spectators, to redefine the choices of the three protagonists.

The residents of the national park welcome a bright sunny morning, birds singing away merrily, animals running around with joy, Sultan and his cub playing by the lakeside. The jungle has an air of joy and peace. A distant thunder breaks the silence and a closer look reveals the jungle being raided by man and machine destroying everything in its path. Sultan tries to fight a futile battle and ends up losing his life.

The night has a very tense air as all the animals gather around with fear in their heart, discussing their fate of losing their habitat to human beings. Yuvi, Sultan's cub, tries to reason with the elders, urging them to not give up their homes.

Everyone is convinced that it is futile to fight humans, and the only option is to leave and move to a safer home. The hot headed militant monkey, Bajrangi, wants to declare a full scale war against the humans taking over their homes. But the anger management Guru, Bagga the bear, has a more civilized suggestion. He believes that all problems could be sorted out through peaceful discussions. So the best way to get back their homes is to have a dialog with the humans, win their hearts and their own homes. The only problem being that no one can speak the human language. Air India, the pigeon recommends Alex, the talking parrot who can come to their rescue.

With hope in their hearts, Yuvi, Bajrangi, and Bagga decide to kidnap Alex from his luxurious golden cage. However, their hope turns to despair as the talking parrot Alex hates animals. Loves humans. And wants nothing to do with the problems of these barbaric animals especially, the primitive ape. Bajrangi. Also Alex is sure that such issues need to be addressed in the parliament at Delhi.

Now starts a journey from Mumbai to Delhi. From hate to love. From enmity to friendship as a motley group of five animals travel across India with a message. A message that they discover not only plagues their homes, but the homes and lives of thousands of other animals on the way.

The journey across the country becomes a journey where enemies become friends and a family comes together to fight for what rightfully belongs to them - A HOME.

She wants to go 'all the way'. He wants to take the backseat bet. But who takes whom for a ride? We 'dare' you to find out. Because a 'dare' is the only thing that gets a rise out of the man in the rear view. 'Driven' in top gear by a sexy chauffeur who likes her hand on the stick-shift and honking for the heck of it. Beep Beep!

Meet Tanya (Kainaz Motivala). An aaj ki naari - modern, independent, ambitious, with oodles of attitude and tons of make-up. Her ideal job is to do something unique (Wow, what an idea! Zzzzz!); She believes if men can be make-up artistes, then women can be chauffeurs too (SUVs only please). So she's part-adventurous, part-feminist without a plan ('women can do anything a man can do you see'). Thus, when she sees a post of a job of chauffeur (for a high-profile client) to drive his fancy wheels, she grabs the steering opportunity.

She's interviewed by her future boss' Dadaji ( Prem Chopra), who's floored by her guts, attitude and 'research' ('Did you know, women are involved in 37% lesser accidents compared to men?' Uh huh!); and Dadaji believes that driver-devi is the daredevil who can change the way his rich spoilt pota, Arjun ( Vickrant Mahajan), looks at life - mostly anally! She jumps into a self-designed white uniform (Driver-devi probably forgot that she was driving a car, not an aircraft), with coloured kohl-lined eyes (they change everyday, matching her moods maybe?) and reports on duty in time. Go girl! Meanwhile, Arjun turns out to be an idiosyncratic and arrogant backseat boss (his colleagues call him 'Terminator' - honk honk!), almost a slave-driver, who behaves robotically at times.

The only thing that 'turns him on' is winning a bet. So our diva-driver challenges him to play 'driver-driver' for a few days; and he takes it on. They exchange a few dialogues, turn on the ignition (by lowering the air-conditioning in the car, really!), listen to some drive-music that he detests; and somehow still fall in love, like co-pilots in a romance cockpit. Chho Chweet! Of course, overnight this machine turns into man (with humanly feelings and blood gushing through his veins instead of engine oil); while 'chauffeurina' turns into a gushing girlie girl.

Read the Exclusive Aiyyaa Movie Review

Aiyya is a fragmented, disjointed, confused and frenzied mirror that Rani holds up to herself. There are so many things in it and so much that it tries to be that it ends up showing us only pieces of what could have been a sweet love story or a mad comic caper or an auto erotic lunatic’s story. The movie careens from shot to shot, suddenly showing us a song, then cutting to a dialogue to abruptly becoming funny. It is too wakda for its own good.

Rani plays a dreamy girl looking for real love. Instead of love, lust strikes when she smells (yes, you read right) a Tamilian guy in the Art college where she works. She starts following him in a daze every time she smells him and falls in love with him. In the meantime, her crackpot family fixes her marriage with a decent Maharashtrian bloke. What does she do next? Aiyya takes you through a maze of dance styles, bizarre scenes and wacko characters before it reaches a surprisingly sweet end.

Rani goes all out to please the audience. She does a ‘lavani’, a belly dance, a Silk Smitha type number and a bit of Bharat Natyam and puts her heart into each of these songs. However, the story and Director let her down. Her acting swings from exaggerated comedy to serious dialogues and leaves you confused about the character. Why a fine actress like her should want to try and impress the audience with a road show of her talents is beyond imagination.

Prithviraj making his debut in Hindi movies cuts a fine figure. He is pure eye candy in this film. Ishha!

The person who was the best fun to watch because of the bizarreness of her character is Anita Date as the Lady Gaga colleague. She is fun and uninhibited and seems to be the only one who fits the movie. Though of course we cannot ask questions like “Who lets a lunatic like that work in a college? and why did she need horrendous buck teeth given that her character was anyway so OTT?” It is only one of the zillion questions that strike you but you dare not ask for answers for fear of what you will face when you look into the Director’s mind.

Pinky Moge Wali is a movie that revolves around life of a fun loving girl "Pinky" played by Neeru Bajwa. She belongs to a rich family, however her mother had expired since long and she has been brought up by her father, but her father doesn't has any love and affection towards her.
Movie Revolves Around Raaj (Gavie Chahal) ,& Pinky (Neeru Bajwa) . She ( neeru ) Lives her role from start to end of the movie.you can easily stuck with her charm & acting ability in movie.Raaj (Gavie Chahal)  is also good at his part.KS Makhan in a role of Akal has short role in movie.his dialogue delivery is so weird.Geeta Zaildar in a role of Billu also has short but impressive role.Script of movie is weak.but some dialogues are enjoyable.  Picturisation of songs Tadka, Je Main & Hune - Hune are very good.
Vikram Dhillon shows promise as director in his maiden Punjabi film. The latter part of the first half gives one the impression that he is losing control but he strikes back after interval and handles the scenes with such clarity and command that he makes his mark for sure. His treatment of the emotional scenes deserves distinction marks.

Shashi is an intelligent woman whose only flaw is that she can’t speak English. She is subdued and inhibited and insecure. That bit I could understand. But why she should act a bit stupid even with people who speak Hindi is beyond me. So for instance, in the plane when a Hindi speaking man (Amitabh Bachhan in an amusing cameo) sits next to her, she still stutters and speaks hesitantly which did not make sense. The sense of loneliness that one feels in a marriage, which has been reduced to a humdrum banal existence, is very well brought out. I caught myself indulging in a bit of male bashing while watching the movie!

Sridevi in her comeback has chosen smartly. Modest clothes, simple one braid hairstyle and a gentle air makes her the perfect simple housewife. However, the Sridevi spark is itching to get out and I felt that strongly. Here is someone capable of making the screen catch fire and she is not given an opportunity to do that. There was scope for at least one “letting go’ scene after she learns English, but she still keeps her light under a bushel. I wish we could have seen some part of her innate sunniness on screen. There is a scene shown in the end credits where she does a little jig while making coffee that shows the cheery side of the character’s personality once she is free of her responsibilities and on her own path. I only wish there were a few more scenes like that in the main movie.

English Vinglish is the story of a woman who does not know English and is made to feel insecure by her family and society at large. The film is a light - hearted yet touching and transformational journey of Shashi. Circumstances make her determined to overcome this insecurity, master the language, teach the world a lesson on the way to becoming a self assured and confident woman.

The film is shot mostly in New York and captures the inherent struggle of many people all over the world with the English Language. Hilarious, touching, sensitive, and this film marks the come back of India's biggest female star...Sridevi.

Heroine starts nowhere and ends nowhere. And in between coming and going from and to nowhere, it wallows in a pond full of tears of self-pity.

We wonder why Mahi Arora is so unhappy. We never know exactly where her career stands at the start of the movie. Is she on top of the heap or a well- established actress or is her career on the wane? Since we don’t have this crucial bit of information it’s hard to process her relationship with her actor boyfriend. Is she so emotional about him because she has nothing else? And when he leaves her she moves on to the next puddle of tears and the next boyfriend. She also works on her career. He seems to be a nice guy who loves her and she bags a big movie and yet our heroine cries and cries and then rejects him. She engineers a scandal to ensure a hit and then cries about doing it. Her strategy works, the movie becomes a hit and still she cries and shivers and becomes a wreck.

All this crying takes place over 3 hours and towards the end I was hoping fervently that she would overdose on pills or slash her wrist or at the very least fall off the ledge in a drunken stupor. But no such luck. We have to wait till the end to see an abrupt ending at which the guy next to me exclaimed “Yeh kya tha???”

Kareena plays the neurotic woman who does not know what she wants to the hilt. No eye make up, smudged mascara, red nose and copious tears make up the Heroine. She has wasted her energy and her talent. Even ‘Halkat Jawani’ is a damp squib. Arjun Rampal and Randeep Hooda as the love interests are decent. The person I really liked watching was Shahana Goswami as the Bengali art film actress. Ranveer Shorey as the mad Bengali director at least provides some much needed laughs.

Too weepy, too rambling, too long. Heroine is an exercise in self indulgence and narcissism. Avoid.

Verdict: Long and mending, Heroine is boring
