Nokia Siemens Networks appoints René Svendsen-Tune head of Customer Operations in Europe

Nokia Siemens Networks has appointed René Svendsen-Tune as head of its Customer Operations for Europe*. In this role he will be responsible for the company’s sales and customer operations across Europe and be a member of the company’s Executive Board.  Svendsen-Tune will join Nokia Siemens Networks on December 1, 2012 reporting to its chief executive officer, Rajeev Suri.

Previously, Svendsen-Tune was chief executive of Teleca, a leading supplier of software services to the mobile industry. He subsequently gained significant experience of working with private equity in this role, following the company’s acquisition by Symphony Technology Group in 2008.  Prior to that, from 1993 to 2006, he spent 13 years with Nokia Networks, where he served in a range of positions, including as senior vice-president of global customer and market operations.

When Svendsen-Tune left Nokia Networks in 2006 to join Teleca as president and CEO he led a turnaround of the company, exiting non-core product businesses while driving improved growth and profitability in mobile services.  In 2008, Symphony Technology Group, a private-equity firm, purchased Teleca and, under the new ownership, Svendsen-Tune led a transformation of the company as it expanded globally to serve multiple industries with communications technology. He left Teleca and Symphony Technology Group in April 2012 after Teleca was engaged in a merger to form Symphony Teleca Corp.

“With René we get the benefit of someone who brings considerable financial discipline from his time working with private equity, knows our business extremely well and has deep experience of our customers and their operations,” said Suri.  “I knew René well when he was at Nokia Networks and I am extremely pleased to have him join the new Nokia Siemens Networks team.”

“The Europe market remains very tough,” said Svendsen-Tune. “But the increased focus and innovation that Nokia Siemens Networks can bring as the mobile broadband specialist offers a great opportunity to renew the company’s business in the region.”

Svendsen-Tune will be based out of Munich, Germany.  He takes over the role from interim Europe head, Hans-Jürgen Bill, who will return to focusing on his permanent role as the company’s head of human resources.
