Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT)
solutions provider, announced it had partnered with Telcel, the largest
subsidiary of Latin American wireless services provider America Movil
(AM), to launch Mexico's first commercial LTE network.
AM adopted Huawei's SingleRAN LTE solution to build a Heterogenous Network (HetNet), which will greatly enhance network spectrum utilization and end-user data transfer speeds, enable a significant breakthrough for improving user experience on wireless networks in Latin America. During the launch ceremony, Huawei's Ascend P1 smartphone and Huawei's LTE broadband modem E397 device were also displayed.
AM is a top-tier operator in Latin America, providing telecommunication services to 18 countries, and is also one of the top five operators worldwide. As the largest subsidiary of the AM Group, Telcel has a nearly 70% market share of the Mexican mobile market with nearly 70 million subscribers.
In order to meet end users' increasing demands for data services, Telcel made large investments in deploying LTE network. The launched commercial LTE services will cover nine cities, with plans to expand to 26 markets until the first quarter of next year to reach 65% of the country's population.
Thanks to Huawei's SingleRAN LTE technology, Telcel's LTE network supports smooth evolution toward future-oriented systems and conforms to the company's forward-looking mobile broadband development strategy. The HetNet deployed with Huawei's innovative SingleRAN RRU equipment and small cell products will significantly enhance end user data transfer speeds on the newly launched commercial LTE network. This allows for more convenient access to HD video calls, speedy web browsing, online gaming, and photo sharing while providing the best technical support for high-speed and large-volume machine-to-machine applications like distance education and health care.
Huawei has secured over 110 commercial LTE/EPC contracts and has launched 51 commercial LTE networks for numerous globally leading operators, more than any other network infrastructure provider. With a global business footprint on six continents, Huawei is driving the development and commercialization of LTE worldwide.
