Android OS took 75% of the global smartphone market

Analyst firm IDC has summed up the development of the global market for mobile devices in the third quarter of this year. Rather, it was popularity rating of operating systems and the number of smartphones sold on them. According to experts, in the reporting period was sold 136 million smartphones running Android - it's 75% market share (of the third quarter was 181.1 million smartphones sold.)

According to IDC, the number of Android-based smartphones for the year grew by 91.5% - almost twice the rate of growth of the overall market, which amounted to 46.4%. On the second most popular operating system iOS with 14.9% market share (26.9 million units). Followed by BlackBerry OS - 4,3% of the market, 7.7 million smartphones; Symbian - 2,3% of the market, 4.1 million devices, and Windows Phone 7 / Windows Mobile - 2% of the market and 3.6 million smartphones. The last platform, it may soon become more popular with the release of models based on the new version of Windows Phone 8.
