Today at the AllThingsD conference Dennis Woodside revealed how we are reinventing Motorola through a portfolio of products starting with Moto X, a new flagship smartphone that will be designed, engineered and assembled in the USA. We’re not talking about just a handful of units either -- available this summer, every Moto X sold in the USA will be assembled in Fort Worth, Texas, making it the first smartphone ever assembled domestically.

There were a few reasons why we decided to do this. There are several business advantages to having our Illinois and California-based designers and engineers much closer to our factory. For instance, we’ll be able to iterate on design much faster, create a leaner supply chain, respond much more quickly to purchasing trends and demands, and deliver devices to people here much more quickly. And as a part of Google we’re being encouraged to take big bets on things that make a difference.

We still have a network of global operations, and that won’t change. Our global manufacturing partner remains Flextronics and we’ll continue to assemble devices locally in China and Brazil. But Flextronics is busy looking for people for the new Fort Worth facility now. If you’re interested, we encourage you to check the available positions and apply.

Acer Bulgari, Prepares Windows 8 tablet with Intel Haswell and screen WQHD 2560 × 1440 pixels

Folks over at Hi-Tech.Mail.Ru have just leaked entire specifications of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active and the Galaxy S4 Zoom. Both of these devices, along with the Galaxy S4 Mini, are expected to be officially unveiled by Samsung at their PREMIERE 2013 GALAXY & ATIV event on June 20 in London, UK.

According to Hi-Tech.Mail.Ru, the water and dust-proof Galaxy S4 Active will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU clocked at 1.9GHz, Adreno 305 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 8 Megapixel rear facing camera and a 2.1 Megapixel front facing camera, both sensors are capable of shooting 1080p videos at 30 FPS. The device will feature a 5-inch Full HD (1080p) Super AMOLED display, 16GB of internal storage with a MicroSD slot for storage expansion, Bluetooth 4.0 + LE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, NFC, IR Blaster and a 2600 mAh battery. The device will have LTE support as well. Internally, The Galaxy S4 Active is exactly the same as any other Samsung Galaxy S4, except the camera sensor difference, but externally it’s a very tough device. The Galaxy S4 Active’s design is no secret as it was leaked in several pictures before.

It's not the first time the company has created a coloured metal phone. Pocket-lint has personally seen a limited-edition (50) red version of the HTC Legend at the headquarters of One & Co, HTC's design house.

We've also had the One S with the special anodised finish and the ill-fated Purple Rhyme that was designed for "girls".

We think we've actually seen the red HTC One in the flesh at a recent HTC event being used by a HTC exec, but can't be sure. 

Sadly, our secret squirrel doesn't have any date information on when we can expect to see the new blue and red versions of the HTC One.

ASUS Currently Pushing Android 4.2.1 To The Transformer AiO

The ASUS Transformer AiO is a strange sort of beast – it's half desktop computer, half massive Android tablet. Here's the thing, though: it's surprisingly cool. I've been using one for the last week or so (review coming soon), and have been extremely surprised at the amount of utility I've found in this mix-n-match device, as well as how well thought-out it is. But I'm getting ahead of myself here – you'll have to wait for the review for the full skinny.

 

Up to this point, my main problem with the Android side is that it was running 4.1, and 4.2 would beperfect for the unit since it brings multiple user accounts (because this is a fantastic family machine). It's as if ASUS could read my thoughts, because the company just pushed 4.2.1 to the massive not-so-handheld, putting it on par with the company's other recent devices.

Current AiO owners can jump into Android and pull the update by heading into Settings > About tablet > System updates.
