A total of 1.095 billion users subscribed to mobile communication
services in China as of the end of October 2012, growing by 0.98% on
month and by 13.63% on year, and 212.42 million (19.39%) of them were 3G
users, according to China's Ministry of Industry and Information
Technology (MIIT).
The number of subscribers at the end of October accounted for 80.6% of the country's population.
At the end of October 2012, 280.34 million users subscribed fixed telephone service in China, translating into a penetration rate of 21.0%.
In October 2012, mobile phone subscribers in China sent 71.83 billion text messages, or 2.13 text messages per phone number a day.
