6.1 inch! Huawei the giant screen phone Ascend mate again

There is no doubt that Huawei's 6.1-inch giant screen phone is the real news that it will debut in the CES 2013 . Following Yu Chengdong the first to demonstrate the aircraft, the domestic media digital tail also got some of the details of this phone.
The news that this 6.1 inch phone the Ascend mate back with a curved design, from the middle to the edge of the curve, the body is very light and thin , the screen display is very good.
Before exposure parameters Ascend mate body thickness of less than 9.9mm, equipped with a 6.1-inch 1080p touch screen, equipped with quad-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz (model may be the Hass K3V3) and 2GB of RAM at the same time, and to provide 13 million pixel camera and 4000mAh capacity battery.

Huawei Ascend Mate leaked again ahead of expected CES unveiling

Following the first sighting in the wild of Huawei's upcoming 6.1 inch monster phone, the Ascend Mate, the device has been leaked once more ahead of an expected CES unveiling. This time, the device is seen posing for a series of photos alongside -- albeit, only just -- another Huawei device we're expecting to see at CES, the 5 inch D2.

The photos obtained by MyDrivers, show what is essentially a big -- really big -- black slab, with on-screen buttons. There appears to be a slight curve to the back of the device, which should make it a little nicer to hold in the hand. If a 6.1 inch smartphone could ever, truly feel nice in the hand. Thickness is supposedly just 9.9mm.

Spec information still remains in the rumor territory at present, but MyDrivers goes on to claim that the Ascend Mate is powered by a quad-core 1.8GHz processor -- likely an in house effort -- 2GB of RAM, a 13MP camera and a 4000mAh battery. Nothing here sounds too out of the ordinary, certainly not for a 2013 release, but until we actually get something official we'll keep the rumor tag on them.

Along with the photos, a leaked advertisement for the Ascend Mate has also been seen. It makes no bones about who Huawei is competing with in this space -- the 5.5 inch Samsung Galaxy Note 2. Samsung has set an extremely high bar in the super sized phone market with the Note and the Note 2, and anyone who considers challenging had better bring their 'A' game. The Note offers a specific experience though, with the S-Pen, whereas at least for the time being, the Ascend Mate just looks like a gargantuan sized version of some of Huawei's other Android smartphones.

Whatever the Ascend Mate may or may not turn out to be, Android Central will be in Las Vegas to bring you all the action as it unfolds.

Some design reveals Xperia X (Xperia Odin)

Unlike his brother Xperia Yuga, Xperia Odin seems to "silence" a lot more. As we know, except anti water IP55/I57 the features Xperia Odin (also known as the Xperia X ) configuration is almost similar to the Xperia Yuga (aka Xperia Z). Configuration is but so far has not anyone mention this to the design of mobile phones. Nevertheless, according to a reliable source that SECafe received in Vietnam:

  • Xperia Odin design significantly thicker and heavier than the Xperia Yuga
  • The back of the Xperia Odin is designed rough, texture with stripes similar to Xperia E dual but subtle and sharper.Meanwhile, the back of the Xperia Yuga designed sleek, with fake plastic mirror.
  • On the after Xperia Odin extra cover. Once opened will have two SIM card and microSD card slot, allowing the user to "hot" mobile SIM without having to shut down as some of the other Xperia line of Sony.
  • Especially in the mobile phone front camera will be located at the bottom of the screen, angling to the right of the speaker (speaker phone in the middle of the bottom edge). Meanwhile, the light sensor is placed in the upper right.
The source is said to be coming from beta (prototype) of Xperia Odin. Sony will probably change a bit in the process of finalizing the design for the official version of the Xperia Odin. But one thing is sure that designed of Xperia Odin will not just mobile phones Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 as a few forums in Vietnam have reported previously.

Currently there is no information about price of Xperia Odin and Yuga. However, as predicted, when the Vietnam Xperia Yuga will have a relatively high price.

The President signed a law abolishing the "mobile slavery"

We have already mentioned the fact that the State Duma is considering amendments to the law "On communication", the result of the adoption of which would repeal the so-called "mobile slavery." That is, subscribers can move from one mobile operator to another while preserving their own room. Now this amendment signed by President Vladimir Putin - stated on its website. Thus, service number portability (Mobile Number Portability, MNP) will indeed be implemented in Russia. Moreover, as stated in the amendments to the law, the ability to retain the number when changing mobile operator will from December 1, 2013, instead of 1 March 2014 (on the postponement asked operators). To save a number, a user would have to submit an application and pay their debts to the operator (if any). The operator, losing party is obliged to transfer the number to the network of other telecommunications companies. She, in turn, will enable the new number in the number of its service and the subscriber will have in its network. The fee for the new service can not exceed $ 100.

Rumor: Galaxy S IV to have a SPEN and is 9.1mm thick!!!

According to Enuri Samsung is planning to introduce the Galaxy S IV with built-in S-PEN. The device has been planned for an April launch like we reported earlier… Samsung wants to bring their next generation of Galaxy S in the same line as the Note series. If we can believe Enuri, Galaxy S IV will use a 5.0” AMOLED display 441PPI with Full HD 1080×1920 resolution a EXYNOS 5440 quad-core processor a 13 megapixel camera and the device will be 9.1mm thick . Which is quiet thick if we compare it to the current Galaxy S III which is only 8.6mm thick!
The biggest question is, will you use the S-PEN? We don’t think so.

Dean Pattrick: My Windows Phone 8 Start screen

There’s little chance that you wouldn’t recognise one of Nokia Music’s greatest evangelists on a trip to Nokia House. Just look out for the man with the rockabilly hairstyle; not one, but two pairs of Purity by Monster headphones round his neck, and the strong likelihood of a JBL wireless-charging speaker in his hands.

Dean Pattrick’s Start screen says as much about his interests as his accessories do, of course. We’re loving the way you can tell so much about a person from their screen.
DeanPattrick

So Dean, tell us the apps you’ve prioritised and why?

Nokia Music: You can tell from the screen that MUSIC features heavily – Nokia Music client, dance mix & Green Day playlists offline cached to the devices, Taylor Swift that was an NFC playlist from a Music poster and finally the Swedish House Mafia gig that takes place on the 20th Dec.
This is not just for demo-ing but also using “living the dream” and listening to Nokia Music at every possible time, whether I am commuting, in-between meetings, ironing, the list goes on.
People Hub: The essential way to interact with your friends, family and the great people I work with.
Sports Tracker: The best way to track your sporting activities. Before you ask yes I do listen to music when I work out J
Accuweather: For checking when to go running and biking… I’m not too fond of cycling to work in the pouring rain…
Connectivity Shortcuts: I cannot live without the quick links to WiFi and Bluetooth
What apps do you use to pass the time?
Apart from Nokia Music it has to be NETFLIX. A superb app for watching films, tv programs, cartoons. Although a premium service (8€ per month) I can watch on the Lumia, PC, Xbox, PS3 and the TV.
What is the last app you paid for, and what does it do?
NFC Interactor although it is not on my main screen this is a great tool for programming NFC tags.
Which app(s) is your guilty pleasure?
Formula 1. If you like F1, then you cannot live without this app, it has everything in (almost) real time. Count down timer for the practice, qualifier and the race; track view; updated race results etc etc. It really is a one stop shop for F1.

Something you’ve always wanted to discover, but couldn’t previously, or a series of photographs that you have in mind? Leave your ideas when you fill out the Trial a Nokia form and let us know.

So that’s what the future holds for Nokia Connects, and as you can see it’s up to you to create some truly memorable contests, events and trials. We’re open to suggestions, so get thinking. Have a very Happy New Year, and see you in 2013!

Nokia Maps, Drive, Transport and City Lens: answering your questions

If you have found a beautiful Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone 8 under the Christmas tree, you might wonder how to make the most out of it. We created a handy overview to guide you through all the features currently available for Nokia MapsNokia DriveNokia Transport andNokia City Lens and to answer all the frequently asked questions.

What are these apps all about?
Nokia Maps has been designed to help you find places anywhere, get reviews, photos (you can contribute too) and then plan a route to get there.
Nokia Drive is for all of you who frequently use a car, to commute or travel. It has a unique user interface developed for in-car and arm-length use. The last update includes battery life improvements.
Nokia Transport is for commuters on buses and trains who want to know the best time to leave the office or partygoers who want a one-tap access to the next bus home.
Last but not least, Nokia City Lens is the next step in augmented reality apps: it helps you find the best places around you through the camera viewfinder.
Why separate apps?
Some of you are wondering why we are developing separate location based apps. In our user tests we realized that people want an easy and fast way to solve their every day needs like walking, driving or riding the bus. With our apps and the power of Windows Phone you can for instance easily pin to start the destinations you go to more often or the apps that really matter to you. Also, we can develop much faster new features if we keep some apps separate.

Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820

Our first Windows Phone 8 smartphones.
Be a part of it.
How to switch from app to app?
Even if most of the time you will use our apps to “drive home” (Nokia Drive) or “ride the bus to work” (Nokia Transport) or “find nearby restaurants” (Nokia City Lens), there are also cases when you start using one app but you need another one to support.
For instance, if you are looking for a vintage shoe shop, you open Nokia Maps to find it, you calculate the route to get there but it’s a bit far away to go on foot. No problems, Nokia Maps can also tell you how to get there by car or public transport and lets you seamlessly start either Nokia Drive or Nokia Transport to get voice-guided car navigation or bus and trains schedules. Easy.

Where is traffic information?
While we are still polishing Nokia Drive to introduce My Commute also on Windows Phone 8, you can see traffic alerts and incidents on Nokia Maps by activating the corresponding map style. In the latest Nokia Maps release we have also particularly improved the display of such information, make sure you have the latest version! (v 3.1).

How do I get spoken street names?
When you first start Nokia Drive, you will be asked to download street maps for offline use and also voice guidance. You can select among over 50 languages, sometimes also different regionalisms or male/female voices. For a crystal clear voice-guided navigation, we have asked professionals to record their voices for you. If you prefer to hear “in 300m turn left into Oxford Street”, you can also select a voice with spoken street names. Make sure you select this option if this feature is very important to you – in this case a computer voice will guide you during your journey.

Where is Nokia Transport available?
Nokia Transport is available for 550+ cities in 50+ countries around the world. In 105 cities you can also get timetable information either according to the available schedule or to real time situation. We are closely working with different transport agencies to collect accurate information, the quality of which exceeds the standard provided by other solutions.
Additionally, we are continuously extending our coverage: just recently we added many cities in Russia.

Where are street maps available?
We have maps data for nearly 200 countries and navigation for around 100 countries. Of course we continue expanding our coverage, in fact, Serbia and Israel, which many of you were waiting for, are now in our database too. To benefit from coverage updates, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi then go to settings > applications > maps > check for updates.
What can I pin to start?
One of the most interesting features of Windows Phone is the possibility to pin apps and features to the start screen, creating a truly personal experience. Our location-based apps are no exception and let you pin to start places, categories, routes and destinations for one-tap access to what you need.
Which of these apps do you use the most? Let us know in the comments section below or send a Tweet to @heremaps.

Deploying telecom-grade products in the cloud – with automatic SLA enforcement

Cloud computing has come a long way from simply being virtual data warehousing – the shapeless blob used to illustrate a network owned by another operator or organization, or to represent unknown architecture. Today’s cloud solutions manage anything as a service (XaaS). This includes anything that an enterprise, government, organization or individual might need to go about their day.
Tasks such as securing optimal placement of workloads, fulfill¬ment of SLAs and resource reallocation are, for the most part, still performed manually, with limited support from the underlying cloud management system.
This lack of automation is a signifi¬cant barrier to developing and deliver¬ing complex services – ones that require multiple resource types and need to meet stringent QoS requirements. To overcome this barrier, cloud manage¬ment needs to be enhanced with inno¬vative technologies that automate tasks such as reallocation of resources and load balancing. Ericsson’s concept of model-based service definition and automatic resolution of SLA constraints is a step toward increased automation.

Increasing connectivity to boost multiscreen options, says digital media company Terra

Paulo Castro, the CEO of digital media company Terra, predicts the popularity of anytime, anywhere interactive video content will result in consumers being offered more device screens for consumer to enjoy their content.

Terra’s website attracts more than 100 million users every month from its customer base of 20 countries – most of which are in Latin America.

Castro outlines some of the added services his company offers to enhance the TV and video experience.

“(It’s about) offering something more immersive and more real-time than even TV,” he says.

He says increasing connectivity will also means more screens for consumers to choose from.

Next-generation residential broadband gateway targets smart homes

As connected devices become increasingly common in our homes, new, more personalized ways of consuming media will become an important source of revenue for our customers.

With enhancements to the delivery of cloud and video-on-demand services, our customers now have the opportunity to improve quality of experience for consumers while tailoring their services for specific applications and devices. Ericsson recently announced a new Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) which uses existing copper and fiber-access infrastructure to provide high-quality, personalized broadband services, specifically for smart homes.

Gabriel Brown, a senior analyst at Heavy Reading, says: “With the ever greater diversity of media, content, and communications being consumed in the home, operators should be able to profit from improved service-delivery capabilities. Service differentiation over high-bandwidth residential connections has great commercial potential. For example, ensuring that the performance needs of a new real-time application are met, or optimizing delivery of media for a variety of device types, are both monetization opportunities.”

Enhancing the delivery of cloud and video-on-demand services to different device types is a top design priority in the new BNG, which runs on the Smart Service Router (SSR) 8000 family of products. Personalization of service delivery is a natural evolution of today’s high-speed internet services and is increasingly viewed as an important revenue-generating capability by operators.

Türk Telekom, a leading tier-1 operator which operates a large Ericsson Broadband Remote Access Server farm, has said that it is interested in testing the new BNG capabilities: “We are currently testing the SSR 8020’s routing capabilities and are very happy with the results. We shall begin testing the BNG functionality on the SSR 8020 in the very near future.”

Ericsson introduced the industry’s first Subscriber Management Service (SMS) platform about 15 years ago and has since then been at the forefront of technology innovation and commercial leadership in this area.

Technology reboot: NFC support in (even more) Xperia™ devices

At the start of the year, we reported on a number of Sony Xperia smartphones and accessories supporting NFC (Near Field Communication). In that article, we also looked at NFC technology in more detail, provided some use cases, and explained how we work with NFC. And in that time, we’ve introduced even more NFC-supported smartphones. Read on to get the full list and a general recap of what NFC is all about.
The beginning of 2012 marks an important milestone for us, because that’s when we introduced theXperia S and Xperia ion, the first Xperia™ devices supporting NFC. We also unveiled Xperia SmartTags, which are SmartExtras accessories that can launch a number of pre-configured profiles in the phone. Since then, the number of NFC-supported Xperia™ smartphones has grown, and the list now includes:
What is NFC?
Near Field Communication, or NFC, is a technology that enables data exchange between devices within a short distance, typically only a few centimetres. In most cases, the communication takes place between an active device and a non-powered target, but peer-to-peer interaction between two powered devices is also possible. Transfer rates are low, ranging from 106 Kbit/s to 424 Kbit/s, which means that use cases are all about small data exchanges. A typical use case would be to use the NFC connection as a trigger to set up Bluetooth™ or Wi-Fi™ connections.
NFC can be separated into three different technical modes which suit different use cases: reader/writer mode, peer-to-peer mode and card emulation mode. When developing your own NFC-enabled app, you will find out that the different modes all cater to different needs. These modes are introduced and explained on the NFC technology page. And if you’re interested in developing an app that uses NFC, you’ll find the information you need in the Android SDK to get started with NFC in your own apps. And stay tuned to Developer World for an update on what we’ll be doing with NFC in the coming year.

Adding 415 apps daily, Windows 8 blows past the 35,000 app milestone

Microsoft’s Windows 8 operating system now has a total of 35,000 applications in its Store, according to tracking website MetroStore Scanner.

The total tally, 35,167, represents a growth of 14,557 in the last 35 days, indicating that Windows 8 is accreting applications to its platform at a rate of around 415 per day. For comparison, in early November, Windows 8 was adding 362 applications per day.

Development activity has therefore increased since the launch of Windows 8 itself. Microsoft must certainly be pleased.

Of the 35,167 applications, over 22,000 are available in the U.S. market.

The natural caveat to this sort of discussion is that the number of applications for a platform is just that: a statistic. The average quality of the applications contained in the marketplace, and the presence of key apps, can be more important. However, the total tally of applications is akin to the pulse of platform, and the quicker that heartbeat the better.

To better describe the terrain, here are a few landmarks: On October 30th, Windows 8 had 10,000 apps; on November 6th, Windows 8 had around 13,000 applications; on November 14th it had 16,000; on November 22nd, it broke the 20,000 app threshold. Today it broke past 35,000.

At the rate of 415 per day, Windows 8 will reach the 50,000 app mark on February 1st.

Windows 8, a rethinking of the Windows platform, is the first of its line to include an application marketplace. Boxed software was the rule for much of the operating system’s history. Microsoft’s move to include the Windows Store on its new OS was hardly surprising, given the success of similar stores on rival platforms, but it was a large addition nonetheless.

Before Windows 8 was released, some doubted whether it could accumulate developer support, or enough sales momentum to warrant developer interest. With more than 40 million licenses sold thus far, and continued application momentum, it appears that Windows 8 will enter 2013 on firm footing.

For every 100 web pageviews on an iPad, a Kindle gets 5, a Galaxy gets 3, and a Surface gets 0.22

Non-iPad web traffic is growing, but it’s still a tiny fraction of what Apple’s iconic tablet pulls in.
Advertising and analytics company Chitika released its December 2012 tablet market update, and the numbers aren’t great for any tablet that doesn’t start with the letter I.
“For every 100 iPad impressions, other tablets have 14.75,” Gabe Donnini, Chitika’s data solutions engineer, said today. “Eighty-seven percent of the tablet web traffic in North America is generated by iPad.”
The biggest chunk of that non-iPad traffic comes from the Kindle, with 4.88 pageviews for every 100 on the iPad. Kindle did grow a very healthy 20 percent month-over-month, however, compared to Chitika’s November statistics. These 4.88 pageviews translate into a 4.25 percent share of all tablet web traffic.
After Kindle, Samsung’s Galaxy has 3.04 pageviews to every hundred on an iPad. Google’s Nexus clocks in at 1.22 pageviews for every 100 on an iPad, and the Nook and Playbook are both under one. All Android tablets together have only  about nine web pageviews to every hundred on an iPad, if you don’t include the Kindle, or 14 if you do. And the Microsoft Surface, which was of course just released earlier this year, has only .22 pageviews for every hundred on an iPad.

This is not an impressive performance in a tablet market that is now almost three years old, based on when the first iPad was released.
Of course, the big question is: Will this change after the holidays? In other words, was it an iPad Christmas, or did more millions unwrap Android tabs this holiday?
“We’re in the process of generating a new report right now to compare pre-holiday and post-holiday traffic,” Donnini said. “We want to see who won the battle for market share … and see what people got on Christmas.”
That report will be coming out shortly, and we’ll have those details on VentureBeat.

http://venturebeat.com

Tablet Market Update: December 2012

This holiday season has a high likelihood of being the biggest ever when it comes to tablet sales, as multiple manufacturers have unveiled highly publicized new devices over the past few months. To provide a view of the current market environment, Chitika Insights conducted a study focusing on tablet usage in North America.
To quantify this latest report, Chitika Insights examined a sample of tens of millions of tablet impressions from the Chitika Ad network. This study was drawn from a date range of December 8th to December 14th 2012, and only includes traffic from the U.S. and Canada.
As seen in the above graph, users of the Kindle Fire family of tablets constituted 4.88 impressions per 100 iPad impressions in December – a 4.25% share of all tablet Web traffic as a whole. This is an increase of nearly 20% from Kindle Fire’s 3.57% share observed in our last Tablet market update.
The Samsung Galaxy family of tablets also experienced a usage share increase, albeit less impressive than the Kindle Fire, growing from 2.36% to a 2.65% share of all domestic tablet traffic.
The Google Nexus family of tablets continued to see usage growth, with its share rising from 0.91% in November to 1.06% in December – an increase of more than 15%.
Despite these gains by some of the bigger players in the tablet marketplace, there has been a negligible impact to Apple’s dominant usage share. Users of Apple’s tablets still generate over 87% of U.S. and Canadian tablet Web traffic, coming down from just over 88% one month ago.
We’ll be revisiting the evolution of tablet market shortly, as the new influx of activated tablets from the Christmas holiday begin to impact usage figures.

Reflecting on 2012: scale and opportunity

As the year draws to a close, I can’t help but reflect on what we’ve accomplished together in 2012. Our big goal this year was to establish a new, scalable platform on the phone and in the cloud upon which we can better achieve our mission: to provide a confident, convenient and customized app experience for our customers across the world, and enable developers to rapidly innovate and realize opportunity.

We literally set a new foundation this year with the deployment of all-new infrastructure – new client platform, new developer toolset, new Dev Center, new catalog infrastructure, and all-new global service. I know transitions can be frustrating, but it is now complete and customers and developers are already beginning to reap the benefits with a better app and store experience, faster performance and more robust tools.

Focus on customer experience

As a direct result of our investments, Windows Phone customers now download, buy, and use more apps than at any time since we first launched Windows Phone 7 two years ago. On average Windows Phone users have downloaded 54 apps each to personalize their phone experience around the people and information they care about most.  This high and growing level of customer engagement reflects our focus on 3 key customer promises:

Confidence. Establish high confidence level in the store and the apps it offers.  Confidence is built by testing and certifying every app and game to help protect customers from malware and viruses.  Over the last year we’ve certified and published over 75,000 new apps and games (more than doubling the catalog size) and over 300,000 app updates. In addition, this year we added the capability for customers to tell us if they have a concern about an app.
Convenience. Make app discovery and purchase convenient.  Over the last year we’ve made a lot of discovery enhancements including Bing-powered search and smart lists, as well as new collections and recommendations for Windows Phone 8 customers.  We’ve also made the purchase experience easier than ever by expanding payment options to include PayPal and Alipay, and doubling the number of carrier billing connections.
Customization. Enable users to create their own app experience. Live Apps are an example of this, surfacing information from the app right on the Start screen.  Based on customer feedback, 85% of Windows Phone 8 users indicate they would choose Live Apps over those without. It’s our job to empower you with the tools and APIs to build these unique experiences.
Create opportunity for developers

The release of the new developer platform for Windows Phone 8 and its shared core with Windows 8 significantly expands the opportunity for innovation, customer reach and monetization for developers across the globe. Even though Windows Phone 8 just started shipping in the last 7 weeks and most developers are still creating new or updated Windows Phone 8 apps, we have already seen an increase in developer revenue month over month, up 40% in the 30 days since the SDK release. We anticipate that to grow with new hardware sales and as apps with the new capabilities like in-app purchase begin to reach customers. Our commitment to creating opportunity for developers is focused on 3 key tenets:

Innovation. Establish Common UX Design Language. With Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, Microsoft has created a common, compelling user experience design to accelerate and simplify how users interact with their devices. And we have added a rich set of shared APIs and a consistent toolset, so developers can create innovative experiences for both Windows and Window Phone users.
Customer Reach and Engagement. Create a global distribution opportunity. Over the course of 2012 we expanded the number of markets where users can get apps and games for their Windows Phones by over 5x, from 35 markets at the start of the year, to 63 with the spring release to over 95 and counting with Windows Phone 7.8 (testing isn’t complete, the final count may increase) and finally to 191 markets with Windows Phone 8, representing over a 90% increase in addressable market for your apps. We have also invested in giving developers access to better reporting and deeper insight into customer feedback.
Monetization. Support multiple business models to create a diverse app catalog. In 2012 we added in-app purchase capabilities (for both durables and consumables) in addition to the existing advertising, trial and paid app business models already available. Enabling new business models isn’t enough; the payment options customers prefer must also be available. This year’s expansion added some of the most popular including PayPal, Alipay and a large expansion of carrier billing (six new carriers in the last 3 weeks alone). Carrier billing when offered, for example, is preferred by 75% of the Windows Phone users who have access to it and drives over 2x paid downloads compared to credit card billing.
We exit 2012 with a new foundation firmly in place, a huge expansion in developer opportunity, and a great new product in Windows Phone 8, which is receiving acclaim by both industry and consumers. There has never been a better time to develop for Windows Phone. If you haven’t already, we’d like to invite you to visit the Dev Center to download the new SDK and for those of you who have made the journey with us, I want to say thank you on behalf of the entire Windows Phone team. Your feedback drives us and your apps inspire us.

Thank you and Happy New Year!

Lowered the wages of the head of Apple with 99%

The remuneration of the CEO of Apple (Apple) Tim Cook has decreased by 99% compared to 2011, having completed his first full year at the helm of the company, Reuters said on Monday.

Cook, who inherited the post of legendary Steve Jobs, in 2012 received a total of 4.17 million dollars from 378 million dollars in 2011, the company announced today. Cook takes the helm at Apple in August 2011. remuneration he was 14 times higher in 2010 when he was chief operating officer at technology giant. Cooke This year will receive shares of the company since last year has been valuable securities 376.2 million, Apple said. Remuneration for 2012 includes a salary of 1.4 million dollars and a bonus of 2.8 million dollars . In fact, the basic salary of the Cook rose to 900,000 in 2011, says Reuters. Ever since Cook took over, Apple shares have risen by 35%.

Apple chief Tim Cook takes 99pc pay cut to $4m due to lack of stock bonuses

APPLE CEO Tim Cook's has taken a pay cut of 99pc to $4.17 (€3.2m) for this year after a 2011 package fattened by more than $376 million in long-term stock awards.

Cook received the largest single pay package awarded to a company CEO in about a decade when he replaced Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in August last year, shortly before the Silicon Valley legend's death in October 2011.

The maker of the iPhone and iPad made the 2012 compensation disclosures in a regulatory filing on Thursday. Cook, 52, has been with Apple since 1998.

Virtually all of Cook's $376 million stock bonus in 2011 was in awards that vest in two chunks - one in 2016 and the other in 2021. This structure was intended to keep Jobs' longtime lieutenant at the helm for many years, as the value of the stock will depend on how well the company is doing in 2016 and 2021.

Cook, who is credited with masterminding a sprawling but efficient Asian supply chain, has generally received high marks for his first year for shepherding several successful gadget launches, including the iPhone 5.

But he was forced to make a public apology in September after the company launched a mapping service application riddled with glaring geographical errors. The Maps app fiasco contributed to the departure of fellow Apple veteran and software chief Scott Forstall.

In addition, some analysts questioned whether Cook, whose only major new product since taking the helm was a smaller version of the iPad that Jobs propelled into the mainstream in 2010, has the vision to produce the next big product category and sustain historically stellar growth for Apple as global mobile competition intensifies.

"The jury is still out in terms of the job he is doing," said fund manager Tim Ghriskey, whose Solaris Group counts Apple stock as the biggest holding among the approximately $2 billion it manages.

But he added that the company's long-term prospects look strong, particularly if it rolls out oft-rumored television products in the next few years.

As of yesterday's close, Apple shares were almost 37pc higher than when Cook became CEO 16 months ago. However, since a record-high close of $702.10 on September 19, the stock has fallen almost 27pc.

Ghriskey said Wall Street remained nervous about the growing popularity of Google’s Android phone software, used by global smartphone leader Samsung, and potential margin pressure from that intensifying competition.

In terms of base salary, Cook actually received a 50pc increase to $1.4 million for 2012, and the same 200pc non-equity bonus other top Apple executives like CFO Peter Oppenheimer earned, Apple said in yesterday’s filing ahead of a February 27 shareholders' meeting.

Cook's 2012 package includes a non-equity bonus of $2.8 million.

Despite the increase, Apple said Cook's target annual cash compensation is "significantly below the median annual cash compensation level for CEOs at peer companies." It also said that Cook will not receive any stock awards for 2012.

Cook's latest compensation package also pales in comparison to his package in 2010, when he was chief operating officer. That package was 14 times higher.

A company spokesman would not comment beyond the filing.

Jobs famously received $1 a year in salary in the three years before he stepped down, though in 2000 he too received a stock option that analysts say was valued at almost $600 million at the time.

Looking beyond Apple, Yahoos CEO, Marissa Mayer, a former Google Inc high-flyer hired this year to try to turn around the struggling Internet icon, won a pay package worth more than $70 million. Despite her lack of a track record as CEO and Yahoo's tiny size in comparison, her basic pay is comparable to Cook's, with about $1 million in annual salary and up to $2 million in an annual bonus.

Oracle's Larry Ellison, one of the most highly paid US chief executives - and also the world's sixth-richest man, according to Forbes - received total compensation for the year ended May 31, 2012, of $96.2 million - almost all of it in stock options. That compared with $77.6 million in 2011.

According to a study of the Fortune 500 conducted by Forbes this year, CEOs were paid a base salary of $1.1 million in 2011 on average, with the mean annual bonus at $2.4 million and average total compensation - including stock awards - at around $17 million.

Apple shares closed up 0.4pc at $515.06 on the Nasdaq yesterday.
