[Updated] iPhone 5S Concept Images Hint Two Different Screen Sizes

A few leaked images iPhones with different screen sizes have surfaced INTERNET today. The leaked images show iPhones with different colors and sizes. The build material looks plastic adding more evidence to confirm that the next iPhone in the series might have cheaper versions. The budget according iCulture iPhone

Future fails: 5 tech predictions sci-fi got wrong

Science fiction has a remarkable record of predicting tomorrow's world. However, there's still some room for improvement.

Back in 1989, Robert Zemeckis’s Back To The Future: Part IIreckoned that, come 2015, the humble skateboard would be no more, and we’d all be zipping about, without wheels. above the ground. Cloned Dinosaurs

Okay, we’re not sure how this would benefit mankind, but we’ve been waiting to hear the real-life roar of a T-Rex since Jurassic Parkstormed the box-office in 1993. But hey, at least we’ve had Dolly the sheep, right?

Moon Colonies

Not only are we not lounging on our space deck-chairs on the surface of the moon, squinting down at the distant Earth, but we haven’t even been back there since 1972! So much for Ursula K. Le Guin’s The Lathe of Heaven, Asimov’s The Gods Themselves, Wall-Eand Moon, – not to mention huge swathes of Arthur C. Clarke’s writing! Our extra-terrestrial frontiersmen may still be grounded, but NASA’s right now got the unmanned Mars Curiosity roveruncovering all the Red Planet’s secrets – so maybe one day, we’ll all be Martians instead of Moon Men.

 Teleportation

Star Trek has much to answer for, but the primary culprit is this: how come we still can’t zap ourselves from A to B? We’ve seen it inThe Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Doctor Who, Stargate, Logan’s Run, and, perhaps most gruesomely, The Fly – but, in reality, scientists say that the most we can hope for is the teleportation of particles and information. China’s planning to launch a quantum teleportation satellite in 2016 to test this out. Now, that is pretty exciting, but in the meantime, it’s back to the bus-stop for us…

Nuclear Apocalypse

On the bright side, science-fiction has more than once foretold the nasty end of our cosy modern age due to some catastrophic nuclear holocaust. La Jetée, The Road, Blade Runner, The Hunger Games – it’s a long and growing list by a collection of rather pessimistic writers and directors. And yet, here we are, nearing the end of 2012, still more or less intact! We might not have robotic servants, but we haven’t blown ourselves sky-high. Phew!

Garbage Fuel

As well as hoverboards, Back To The Future (Part III, this time) suggested we’d solve both our landfill and our fuel problems in one convenient stroke by using our trash to power our equipment! Well, while this one isn’t quite as unrealistic as the T-Rex cloning effort, we’re not there yet. Scientists are working on thermo-chemical and fermentation processes to turn medical, radioactive, industrial, and municipal waste into fuel that could replace petrochemical products – and British Airways are looking into turning waste into jet-fuel! So perhaps Doc Brown wasn’t all wrong…

Sony C650X Odin Appears Again, This Time in a Render

Jsus sent us another email, so after showing us the Sony C650X Odin phone in a hands on picture, he now reveals what seems to be a render of the device. He dubs it a Sony Xperia 2013 smartphone and leaves it that way… As usual, we can’t tell if he’s showing us the real deal or merely a render he created.

Sony Xperia Odin was already leaked in a bunch of benchmarks, that confirm it has a big 5 inch display with 1080p resolution, Android Jelly Bean and the famous quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor on board, with 2 GB of RAM. Sony has no quad core phone right now in its portofolio, so Odin kind of makes sense. Also, the choice of Qualcomm quad core CPU makes sense, since it’s the most popular option right now. In the end the rumors about the Sony Xperia Nexus could also be true, but not this year, since Google already unveiled its Nexuses.

As far as the Sony C650X Odin design goes, we’re dealing with a phone that uses no front buttons, so it probably has virtual ones and also a very thin bezel next to the display, probably an edge to edge screen here. This design sort of reminds me of the Nokia N9 combined with Xperia Arc and Xperia S a bit. I also expect at least a 12 megapixel camera at the back, if not a 16 megapixel Exmor R sensor…

Sony C650X Odin Phone Pictured – Concept or Leak?

Following the hoax over here, I’m afraid to say the image below shows a real phone, since I wouldn’t want to misinform anyone. All I can say is that this supposed Sony C650X Odin handset came to us from the very prolific Jsus, who has made us believe he created real phones before. So, let’s find out what the Odin is about.

Leaked about two weeks ago in benchmarks, this is supposed to be a 2013 Sony flagship phone, one that packs a 5 inch display The handset runs Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean and has a 5 inch display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, for a 441 ppi pixel density. We also get a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad core CPU inside, with Adreno 320 GPU and 2 GB of RAM. HTC recently announced a 1080p display phone, so nothing surprising here.

 

However, Sony has yet to make an official debut for a quad core phone, so we’re waiting on that. The really interesting thing about the image that Jsus sent us (and probably created) is that the facade of the phone is almost all glass, with that 5 inch display being very well integrated and covering the Xperia logo, hidden under glass. I imagine that the Android buttons are now virtual, like on the Galaxy Nexus. Also, It would be cool if the lower side would light up in some way… So, what’s the verdict? Fake or real?

Tweeting plants at the Nokia House rooftop garden

Growing vegetables, herbs and other plants in an urban setting is not really a new thing. All kinds of urban gardening projects, from the NYC High Line to community gardens and city farms built in unused urban spaces, have been gaining popularity in recent years.
This summer, one of the rooftop terraces at the Nokia head office in Espoo, Finland, has also been blooming with strawberries, herbs, vegetables and other more exotic plants.

Up until now, the rooftop terrace, which has an amazing view of the Baltic Sea and the surrounding areas, has been mostly unused. Earlier this year, though, the Nokia Sustainability team and a group of gardening enthusiasts at Nokia put their heads together and decided put the space to good use and bring urban gardening to Nokia House.

In early June, wooden containers and many bags of soil were brought to the terrace. Nokia employees could sign up for the project and have their own containers (for themselves or for their teams) where they could grow vegetables, herbs, flowers and other plants of their choice.

I’m a big fan of locally produced food and interested in gardening, so I signed up immediately. I wouldn’t say I had a “green thumb”, but after attending an urban gardening workshop and gathering all kinds of seeds and saplings from friends and family, my enthusiastic gardening colleagues and I were ready to give it a go.

But I wanted my gardening project to be more than just about watching tomatoes, peas, strawberries, mint, basil and lavender grow in our wooden container. I wanted the plants to tell us when they needed water and how they were doing up there on the windy terrace. I wanted them to tweet!

A quick search online revealed that there weren’t many off-the-shelf solutions available for this purpose, so I turned to Nokia Research Center (NRC) for help.

I was put in touch with Teemu Savolainen, from NRC Tampere, who got very excited about the idea and promised to help. Using components such as moisture sensors, ZigBee radios, a recycled laptop and an old Nokia E7, he assembled a system that would do exactly what I needed. In no time, our plants at Nokia House rooftop garden were tweeting!
