Blog on the move with your Nokia Lumia

Given the ubiquity of services such as Facebook and Twitter you might think that people were less inclined to publish their own blogs. However, you’d be wrong.

At the end of 2011, the social media consultants, NM Incite, said they were tracking over 181m blogs on the Internet, up from just 36m five years ago.
In the same year, the blogging platform, Tumblr, was the fastest growing social networking website in the USA. It’s rapidly closing in on 80m blogs with 34bn individual blog posts.
Being a blog ourselves, it’s great to see that the blogosphere is in such rude health.  Just like a regular website, a blog can be informative but at their best they also encourage… Conversations.
For millions of people around the world it is often much simpler than that. A blog is an opportunity to self-publish, write about their interests or just keep an account of what they are eating or the places they have been.
Part of the attraction is that they are simple to maintain and you don’t need a lot of technical knowledge to do it. This, of course, is where your Nokia Lumia smartphone can help you out.
There are apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace so that you can blog on your Nokia Lumia for each of the three most popular blogging platforms, WordPressBlogger and Tumblr.
Whether you have a blog already, or you are thinking about starting one, here are some of the choices available to you.

WordPress

WordPress is an open source project and is maintained by a community of developers for everyone to use. It’s just shy of its 10th anniversary and claims to be the largest self-hosted blogging tool in the world.

WordPress

In the spirit of WordPress itself, this is an open source app and is by some distance the highest rated WordPress client in the Marketplace.
You can write posts, edit them, moderate comments and even view statistics for your blog.

Writer

Writer is another tool for WordPress blogs but it also claims to be compatible with blogs on other publishing services such asMoveable TypeJoomla, and Drupal.

Blogger

Blogger is now Google’s very own blogging tool, although the search giant acquired it, rather than created it themselves.
Blogger, when it was first launched in 1999, was one of the very first companies dedicated to offering self-publish tools.

Blogg

This is a very easy to use Blogger client for your Nokia Lumia, although there is a price to be paid for its simplicity. Currently, you can’t add images to your posts.
Other than the issue over the images, Blogg has a really clean and no-nonsense user interface, which is perfect for quick updates from your phone when you’re on the move.
UpdateMyFeed (£1.49)
If images are important to your Blogger account then you might consider paying for this app. Other advanced features include the ability to save drafts, adding tags and category management.
As well as Blogger, UpdateMyFeed also supports other clients such as WordPress and BlogEngine.

Tumblr

Tumblr is a relatively new kid on the block compared to WordPress and Blogger (it was founded in 2007) but has rapidly become a real darling of the social media landscape.
It’s great for showing off images and has become a favourite among celebrities too.

tumBoard

This is a wonderful app that takes full advantage of the Windows Phone interface with its easy swiping across different screens.
There are nice touches such as being able to take and then post photos within the app using your Lumia’s camera and even supports multiple Tumblr accounts.

Pikchur

Many people use Tumblr as a photo blog and that’s been recognised by the developers behind this app. It’s been created specifically to share videos and images on your blog.
In addition to Tumblr, it also supports other social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.

New loader in Opera Mini for BlackBerry and J2ME

Norwegian company Opera Software ASA today announced a new version of Opera Mini 7.1 for J2ME and BlackBerry devices, which, in her words, has a new, redesigned download manager, opening new opportunities to work with uploaded files to the phone, whether it be documents, music, videos, and any other data.
It's no secret that mobile phones connect to the network is not always stable. Many probably know that feeling when downloading a file size of 10 MB is stopped at around 9.99 MB, when the subway car enters a tunnel and the network is lost to the next stop.
In Opera Mini 7.1 download under such circumstances would be suspended and resumed automatically when the user is in range of a network.
The developers also claim that the processing of downloaded files has become much easier than before. On the BlackBerry platform provides access to files from within the browser, and the owners of devices based on J2ME can choose - to open the file in a media player installed on the phone or in the phone memory.

Sony Xperia V still will be released in Europe before the end of the year

Not so long ago we wrote about the smartphone Sony Xperia V can not go in Europe this year - it will be available only at the beginning of 2013. Now, however, has received new information that gives us hope for the appearance of the device in December, two Swedish operator - Telia and Three - have already started taking pre-orders for Sony Xperia V, setting December as the date for the start of deliveries.
In addition, the smartphone can be ordered in Finland at the retailer Gigantti costs 619 Euro (without a contract and bind to any operator). At the same time, in some European countries, Sony Xperia V can really come in 2013 - for example, in France, and there is a model with the first day of work will be based on Android Jelly Bean. Recall novelty is based on the 1.5-GHz dual-core processor, equipped with a 4.3-inch display 1280 x 720 pixels, supports LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and GLONASS, and enclosed in a dust-and waterproof .

Asus Padfone 2 may arrive sooner than expected

Is it a bird, is it a plane? No, it's some kind of smartphone-tablet thing
The Asus Padfone 2 may arrive in stores sooner than expected after reports suggest the smartphone-tablet hybrid will go on sale in Germany on December 1.
According to German site Inside-Handy, it has received confirmation that the Asus Padfone 2 will be in stock from the beginning of December, although we've spoken to the Taiwanese firm and it is yet to confirm or deny this.
The original Asus Padfone failed to make it out of Asia but the Padfone 2 has been pegged for a European launch at least.

Christmas comes early

It's currently thought the Padfone 2 will arrive in Europe at the start of 2013 but this latest news does raise hopes of an earlier arrival.
You'll need some serious cash though if you fancy getting your hands on the Padfone 2 with the 32GB model reportedly sporting a price tag of €799 (around £642/$1020/AU$980), while the 64GB version will set you back €899 (around £720/$1150/AU$1105).
The Padfone 2 smartphone packs a 4.7-inch Super IPS+ HD display, quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 4G connectivity, NFC and 13MP camera.
The tablet dock offers up a 10.1-inch HD display and a 5000mAh battery, which will charge the phone when it's docked.
We're still unsure if the smartphone-tablet hybrid concept will be a success - with the high asking price Asus may find it hard to shift the combo.

Windows Phone 7.8 could hit devices in a matter of days

Soon, WP7 fans. Soon.
Nokia has let slip that Windows Phone 7.8 could be landing on users' handsets in just weeks, if not days, as the updated software has now been released to manufacturers.
The news comes from a developer seminar in Singapore, where the head of Nokia Asia Pacific Developer division let slip that the RTM had happened.
Reportedly, he told devs that the consumer roll-out would definitely happen before 2013, and added that WP7.8 won't be getting the swish new IE10 browser because the aging hardware can't support it.

Nearly but not quite

The not-quite-Windows Phone 8 software update will see Windows Phone 7 devices get some almost-WP8 updates like a revamped Start screen and Xbox Music, among other consolatory prizes.
We'd previously heard tell of a Windows Phone 7.8 release date following shortly after the Windows Phone 8 launch date (which was October 29), thanks to a post on the Italian Windows Phone Facebook page.
This was also backed up by a leak on a Chinese blog last week; so although nothing's for sure, all signs point to an imminent software treat for WP7 users.

ZTE Grand X Pro appears but offers little

A new, affordable Grand X replacement on the way?
It looks like Chinese manufacturer ZTE is prepping a new flagship handset in the form of the Grand X Pro, if a leaked photo is to be believed.
The original ZTE Grand X crept onto the mobile scene earlier this year with a 4.3-inch display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, 5MP camera and running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
We hope the ZTE Grand X Pro builds on the relatively average specs of its predecessor, but all we've got to go on is the name and an image, tweeted by EvLeaks.

Hush hush

EvLeaks has a relatively good track record when it comes to leaking handsets, with the same Twitter feed correctly revealing the HTC One X+ back in September.
Specs wise we don't have any leads, but you probably shouldn't get your hopes up for a Samsung Galaxy S3 challenging handset, with ZTE concentrating more on affordable smartphones.
If the ZTE Grand X Pro is indeed in the pipeline, it could well make an official appearance at CES 2013 in Las Vegas or MWC 2013 in Barcelona at the start of next year.
We've contacted ZTE about the Grand X Pro, and we'll update this article once we hear back.
