Facebook for iOS updated with voice messaging and improved Nearby tab

Facebook for iOS has been updated to include voice recording in messaging, ability to post videos to the timeline, and an improvement to the Nearby tab in version 5.4.

Previously available for the Android app and Messenger app, the voice messaging allows users to easily communicate with others using only their voice. In our hands-on time with the feature we found it pretty intuitive.

"Just tap '+' next to the box where you write a message, then tap 'Record' and hold down the record button to talk.  When you're ready to send, just release the button," Facebook explains, on how to use the new feature. Users can now send still photos, as well.

The ability to record video and post to your timeline from right within the Facebook app is also new.

Lastly, Facebook has revamped its Nearby tab in order to compete with other location-based apps such as Foursquare. It now offers recommendations via Facebook's Knowledge Graph along with several UI improvements.

Still missing is the VOIP feature available in the Messenger app that allows free voice calling over Wi-Fi and cellular data for users in the US, after testing it for a short time in Canada.

You can download the update from the App Store.
